This Domaine - formerly known as Robert Arnoux - has become one of the finest and most revered producers in Vosne Romanée. Many critics, including Allen Meadows, have long singled out Lachaux as producing the "benchmark" Suchots and is right up there with the finest examples of Reignots, RSV and Chaumes. Perhaps less well knows is that Arnoux-Lachaux produce one of the very finest examples of Bourgogne in the entire Côte. This is a multi-dimensional Bourgogne rouge of unusual depth and intensity. It comes from two parcels of Pinot Fin - perhaps Burgundy's most revered selection of Pinot - planted in 1959 at Primeaux, just south of Nuits St-George. The vineyard perennially suffers from millerandage and thus generates very low yields of rich, concentrated juice. Old-vines, low yields and great terroir: not all Bourgogne rouge are created equal.
