2017 Robert Weil

Weil Castle

Widely considered to be the jewel of Rheingau, Weingut Robert Weil produces iconic Rieslings across the sweetness range, with the dry whites showing minerality, citrus and polished acidity, while the sweet wines offer concentration and layers of stone-fruit and spices.

2017 was an insanely good vintage for Weil, with remarkable purity, minerality and texture, balanced by mouth-watering acidity and this week we are proud to be able to offer you this amazing new release from an exceptional producer. Oh, and we also have a few half bottles of the breathtaking 2016 Eiswein to top it all off. Enjoy!

P.S.: we know that German Riesling labels can be a bit confusing, so you can find a nifty little article that debunks most of it here.

2017 Rheingau Riesling Trocken - $49
“The 2017 Rheingau Riesling Trocken is very clear, fresh and even coolish on the nose. "We are incredibly happy with 2017," says Wilhelm Weil, who considers this estate Riesling as one of the best he has produced in the past 30 years. It is an incredibly lush but fine and singing 500,000 times (this is the number of bottles). Gorgeous and highly attractive—not just because of the price. The 2017 is Wilhelm Weil's 31st vintage, and he can be proud of it indeed. Tasted at the domaine in August 2018.” - 90 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken - $59
“The 2017 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken is very clear, fine and fresh on the concentrated and well-defined nose. Sourced from younger vines from Erste and Grosse Lagen plus Wasseross, this is a highly elegant, finessed and mouth-filling Riesling with gorgeous balance and juicy fruit. This amazing Riesling needs to be enjoyed today and over the next 20 years. A Must Buy!” -  92 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken - $85
“The 2017 Kiedrich Klosterberg Trocken is extremely fresh yet ripe and concentrated on the remarkably fresh and even mineral-scented nose. Crushed rocks from loess-loam soils alternate with phyllite slate soils and a remarkable iron content. Great concentration but also precision and mineral freshness. The palate is round, lush and elegant, with greatly finessed vibration and salinity. Very intense and piquant. Great vitality and finesse, this is Riesling at its best. But wait, there are more…” - 93 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken - $85
“Flinty, precise and fresh on the nose, with bright fruit aromas on the pure phyllite slate flavors, the dry 2017 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken is piquant and fresh, very minor but in the background is gorgeously fresh juice. This dense and concentrated 2017 is full of vitality, piquancy, precision and tension. A young but highly promising Erste Lage that needs some years to age.” - 94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs Riesling Trocken - $138
“The brilliant, citrus colored 2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Trocken GG is super clear, deep, fine and flinty on the pure nose, a real grand cru with flinty and even very fine oaky and mocha notes but most of all: Gräfenberg! Full-bodied, lush and highly elegant on the palate, this is a salty, piquant and tensioned Riesling with great finesse and intensity. Very salty and piquant in the finish, with just the perfect amount of residual sugar, this is a lush and generous Gräfenberg of great intensity, charm and lingering salinity.” - 95 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

2017 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Spätlese - $138
“The bright colored 2017 Kiedrich Turmberg Spätlese represents the super healthy fruit of the vintage that comes from 30+-year-old vines on gray phyllite soils and was picked at 95° Oechsle. The nose is very clear, delicately spicy and mineral in its shining bright, ripe and concentrated fruity character. Dense and lush on the palate, this is a firm, continuously structured and elegant, enormously salty and piquant Turmberg Spätlese with an endless stimulating finish. This is a great wine with terrific expression and great aging potential. The Spätlese was picked up to eight days after the dry wine, and Wilhelm Weil believes it might be the best Spätlese he has ever made.” - 94+ points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
“This Spätlese may be really closed, but it is barely sweet. Great structure and balance with a long, super-clean finish that shows intense lemon-zest, herbal and mineral character. Long aging potential. Drink in 2019.” - 94 points, Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling.com
2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese - $138
“Based on completely healthy fruit picked at 97° Oechsle, the 2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Spätlese is clear, very ripe and balanced on the fruity, comparatively warm scented nose, where flinty and mineral flavors of crushed stones represent the terroir of the Gräfenberg. Enormously ripe and lush, almost creamy on the palate, with very elegant abundance, good density and tightly woven structure, this is a highly delicate, mineral as well as opulent Gräfenberg with remarkably elegant fruit and lingering salinity. Very long.” - 95 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Auslese - $138 (375mL)
“The 2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Auslese opens coolish, elegant and gracious on the clear and bright nose with its stony/crystalline slate spiciness. The juicy fullness on the palate is underlined by a distinctive sweetness, but it's structured by mineral grip and acidity. This is a beautifully spicy and tensioned Riesling Auslese with great elegance, finesse and gentle spiciness. Less piquant and filigreed compared to the Turmberg but long and solemn.” - 96 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese - $490 (375mL)
“Dressed in a clear lemon-yellow robe with a lime-green shimmer, Weil's 2017 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Beerenauslese opens with a highly elegant and refined bouquet with a crystalline clear and delicate, crunchy-slate perfume. Full and lush, really sweet, with stimulating salty-mineral grip, great finesse and elegance, this is a densely concentrated, close-meshed and very long Gräfenberg BA white that is light-weighted.” - 98+ points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
“Very complex interplay of floral honey and fresh herbs. Very concentrated and vibrant, yet the super-long finish is graceful. Try in 2019. Limited production.” - 98 points, Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling.com
2016 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Eiswein - $660 (375mL)
“The 2016 Rheingau Riesling Kiedrich Gräfenberg Eiswein is super precise and spicy on the concentrated and aromatic nose where pineapple and some ethereal, spicy aromas are displayed. The wine is rich, round and elegant on the palate, very sweet but also piquant and pure, with very fine tannins and a long, vibrant finish. This is a truly great Eiswein with mind-blowing precision and sensual intensity.” - 98 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
