Ayala, Bollinger and Henschke

NV Ayala Brut Majeur - $79  $69
"Ayala, based in Aÿ in the heart of Champagne, has been transformed since Bollinger bought it in 2005 and this nonvintage proves it. This is a balanced blend of 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. The result is crisp while not too dry, and therefore drinkable as an apéritif. Apple and bright citrus combine with green plums to give a fruity wine that is also structured. The cellarmaster continues to reduce the dosage (sugar) so there is a crisp, tight aftertaste. Editor's Choice." - Wine Enthusiast

2013 Ayala Blanc de Blancs - $100  $90
"A dense and flavorful blanc de blancs with lots of cooked-apple and sweet pie-crust character. Full body. Rich and almost decadent. Heavier than some, but turns fresh at the end. Drink now." - 92 Points, James Suckling

NV Bollinger Spécial Cuvée - $89  $80
"Fine bubbles combine nicely with the cooked apples, pie crust and lemon rind. Some biscuit, too. Full body. Layered and creamy with a crisp finish. Always delicious. Drink now." - 92 Points, James Suckling

NV Bollinger Rosé - $135  $120
"A fruity and fresh, tangy rosé with peach and apple aromas and flavors and hints of cream and lemon rind. Subtle and satisfying. Drink now." - 93 Points, James Suckling

2018 Henschke Julius Riesling - $49  $42
"Elegant, fresh, crisp, fruit/acid balance spot on, the finish particularly good. Effectively this is a reserve selection." - 95 Points, James Halliday

2017 Henschke Croft Chardonnay -  $49  $42
"A cooler vintage has delivered a rich and complex chardonnay with such supple, fine, layered white peaches and grilled hazelnuts on the palate. Peach-sorbet-like texture that’s compact and long. Excellent purity and poise." -  96 Points, James Suckling

2014 Henschke Rose Grower Nebbiolo - $47  $40
"An attractive set of rose-like florals. Rosehip too, alongside freshly brewed breakfast tea. Unhindered by oak, the palate's brimming with light red cherry flavor and nut-ripe tannins. Drink now and for up to 5 years." -  91 Points, James Suckling

2015 Wheelwright Shiraz - $150  $128
"Commemorates 150 years of family winemaking, crafted from 50yo vines. It is a vibrantly fresh and aromatic wine, with elegance and finesse its cornerstones as it slips through the net of full-bodied shiraz. Its fruit flavours are as much red as black, and you can sense the tannins but not actually taste them. Sheer beauty." - 97 Points, James Halliday
