Nestled in the Bannockburn region of Central Otago, Felton Road has been producing exceptional wine since 1991 and their story is one of refusal to compromise. Using only fruit produced on meticulously selected sites that are organically and biodynamically farmed and completely Estate-owned ensures that the fruit arriving at the winery is as pure as it can be. Add to that a hands-off approach to winemaking - think gravity flow, wild yeasts, wild malo, an avoidance of fining and filtration - and you end up with wines that accurately express the authenticity and complexity of their unique vineyards.
That story is one of the many reasons why every year we eagerly await the release of their new wines - and we are very excited to say that it's time for their fantastic 2018 vintage! You'll find below the Estate's commentary on the growing season and the list of wines we are able to offer you, but please note that the Cornish Point is limited in availability, so first in, best dressed. Enjoy!

Bannockburn Chardonnay - $58
"An inviting and complex nose of almond and apricot kernel with our distinctive white florals. It’s less citrus focussed than normal, expressing more in the stonefruit spectrum due to the warmer 2018 growing season. Winemaking is minimalist: not fined or filtered, allowing for greater expression of place over process. The various vineyard components of this Bannockburn bottling contribute to a palate that is textural, nutty and very long." - Felton Road
Bannockburn Pinot Noir - $67
"Characteristic floral, cherry and spice aromas abound from the glass on first approach. The fruit from our four vineyards (Elms, MacMuir, Calvert and Cornish Point) delivers appealing diversity of aroma and flavour, along with multiple layers and textures. The deeply textural mouthfeel is silken and already charmingly approachable: partly due to the warm 2018 season, but also highly typical of the Felton Road house style." - Felton Road
Cornish Point Pinot Noir - $79 *limited*
"Lifted aromas of violet and rose integrate seamlessly with black cherry and complexing earthen and dried herb notes. The classic Cornish Point expansiveness and deep fruit provides a solid core through the mid-palate. Restraint and transparency with the winemaking allows the site to clearly express its unique personality from this distinctive lakeside site. Velvet like tannins coat the mouth for a rich and thoroughly engaging finish." - Felton Road

A vintage characterised by exceptional heat, with warmer than normal overnight temperatures being of particular note from October through January. As has often been the case, this was a vintage of two halves. When our calendars moved from January to February, the turning of the page was both literal and figurative. Temperatures crashed back down to ordinary levels (in fact, the coolest in 14 years) and the drought was broken by the wettest February on record. This cool and wet month slowed the ripening considerably and fortunately allayed our concerns for the potential style and quality of the wines; due to the preceding warm months and advanced season. Harvesting began early on 28 February and proceeded in an orderly and measured pace over the next three weeks.
