Following a complete revamping of the family estate in the 1970s, owner Paolo de Marchi transformed Isole e Olena in a veritable Tuscan powerhouse. Judiciously using green harvesting and generally tightening the work in the vineyard, with precise use of excellent quality French oak and controlled malolactic fermentations elevated the wines of the estate to a level never seen before. Today we have the latest release of de Marchi's two flagship wines - the delicious, fragrant and bright Chianti Classico, and the deep, silky, powerful Cepparello.

2016 Chianti Classico - $39 bottle // $89 Magnum
"The 2016 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Deep and pliant. The 2016 is another hugely promising wine from Paolo De Marchi. All of the pedigree of the vintage comes through in the wine's textural depth and complexity. The fruit tons are dark and yet there is a wonderful sense of translucence to the 2016. Dollops of Canaiolo and Syrah complement Sangiovese nicely." - (90-92 Points), Antonio Galloni
2015 Cepparello - $135
Super perfumed, with heady notes of kirsch mingling with orange peel, tar, spices and lovely, subtle florals. The full bodied palate offers layers of spicy kirschy cherry jam, without heaviness, and framed with brick-dust tannins that are just grippy enough. Beautiful balance between dark, ripe fruit and freshness, with a long, moreish finish. This is textbook, classy Sangio that will tide you over until the tightly wound and slightly austere 2014 is ready to drink in a decade or so. - TWE
"The 2015 Cepparello is pliant and racy, with lovely floral top notes to match its gracious personality. There is good depth to the dark red/purplish fruit, while silky tannins give the wine plenty of immediacy. Time in the glass brings out attractive rose petal and lavender notes to round things out. The 2015 is not as complex or layered as the best editions. In exchange, it should drink well right out of the gate. Rain during harvest resulted in Cepparello that is attractive, but also a bit lacking in dimension." - 93 Points, Antonio Galloni
2014 Cepparello - $119 // Last of it!
"The 2014 Cepparello is one of the truly great wines of the vintage. Vivid and intense in all of its dimensions, it exudes purity from start to finish. Silky tannins, expressive aromatics and beautifully delineated, bright, layered Sangiovese fruit are some of the signatures. In 2014, Paolo De Marchi produced an epic Cepparello for the ages. Don't miss it." - 97 Points, Antonio Galloni
