Château La Nerthe

la nerthe estate

Château La Nerthe has a rich winemaking history, stretching back to the 16th Century, but it was only in the 1980s that its true potential has been realized when the Richard family bought the Estate. Revamping everything and moving its winegrowing practises towards organics principles, blending modern stainless steel use with old cement vats and carefully looked after by a succession of extremely talented winemakers, the Estate has progressively taken back its place as one of the best of the appellation.

This week we have some of the Château's latest release on offer and this is a unique occasion for you to get your hands on the rarely seen (and exquisite) Cuvée des Cadettes, alongside some of the Southern Rhône Valley best wines and celebrate more than five centuries of winemaking.

THE WINES

2018 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc - $95
35% Grenache Blanc, 33% Roussanne, 32% Clairette + Bourboulenc
Pale golden yellow. The nose opens up on intense, complex stone fruits, with grapefruit, pear, white flowers, lemon and fresh baked bread surfacing after a little aeration. The palate is dense and intense, but backed by zippy freshness and aromatics of honeyed white flowers and a touch of mineral salinity. Exceptional length and power.

2017 Château des Tours Brouilly - $33 *Beaujolais AOC*
100% Gamay from their holdings in Beaujolais
Rich and aromatic, this delightful little Beaujolais is supple, with gentle, silky tannins and gorgeous red and black fruits with a spicy backbone.

2017 Côtes du Rhône Village Rouge - $33
60% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre
"This full-bodied wine offers loads of plummy, ripe cherry and berry flavors offset by an invigorating edge of black pepper and brisk acidity. It's luscious and juicy but firmly structured by taut, persistent tannins. Although it drinks well now it should improve through 2020 and hold further." - 91 Points, Wine Enthusiast

2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge - $95
44% Grenache, 28% Syrah, 24% Mourvèdre, 4% others
"Vivid ruby-red. High-pitched, mineral-accented red berry and floral aromas are complicated by suggestions of allspice and licorice. Juicy and focused on the palate, displaying impressive energy and lift to the raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Rich yet lithe, carrying no excess weight. Smooth tannins build slowly through a very long, spice- and floral-tinged finish." - 93 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Cuvée des Cadettes - $255
35% Grenache, 33% Mourvèdre, 32% Syrah
"Lurid magenta. Expansive aromas of fresh boysenberry, black raspberry, incense and spicecake. Sweet, seamless and concentrated on the palate, offering intense dark fruit liqueur and lavender pastille flavors and suggestions of licorice and vanilla that build with air. In a generous style, but there's more than adequate structure to this wine as well. Silky, even tannins add shape to the energetic finish, which hangs on with outstanding tenacity." - 95 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous
