Bolgheri superstar Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is one of the few estates that needs little to no introduction. It is still important to mention that, although relatively young (first vintage being produced in 1985), Ornellaia is considered one of Italy's leading wine producer. Blending a careful selection of estate-grown Bordeaux varieties, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia truly elevates the Super Tuscan style to soaring heights and the textbook 2015 vintage delivers impeccable ripeness, aromatics and exquisite tannins.

"This is a terrific vintage for white wines along the Tuscan coast, and the 2016 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia absolutely hits all the high notes. The blend sees anywhere from 70% to 80% Sauvignon Blanc with Viognier and Vermentino in supporting roles. Every once in a while, a dash of Verdicchio is thrown in for good measure. Some 35,000 bottles are produced. This wine is beautifully snappy, tonic and fresh. The effect is especially successful in terms of the palate, where the wine revives and refreshes but not in a banal way. There is enough complexity here—with passion fruits, garden greens, spring flowers and sweet almonds—to keep your attention, sip after sip. This is a profoundly inviting and satisfying wine.” - 92 Points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com
2016 Le Volte - $95
Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
"You get excellent value with the entry-level 2016 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia. This vintage radiates freshness and sheer energy, thanks to the excellent material available in this classic vintage. The base of the wine is Merlot, but the winemaking team at Ornellaia sources fruit far and wide along the Tuscan coast to locate the Sangiovese and the Cabernet Sauvignon that completes the blend. The wine opens to a rich, dark appearance and offers succulent fruit tones of blackberry, blackcurrant and lingering spice. You also get that characteristic freshness that comes from the Sangiovese." - 91 Points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com
2015 Le Serre Nuove - $95
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
“This is a stunning and exuberant wine that drinks with beautiful intensity and personality. The 2015 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is made with fruit from the estate's young vines. Fruit from the older vines is instead directed to the top-shelf expressions. If this wine is any indication of what we can expect from the next vintage of Ornellaia to hit the market, we are in for a very special treat. This is a complete and richly concentrated expression that drinks with seamless intensity. It pits power against elegance with confidence and grace." - 93 Points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com
2016 Le Serre Nuove - $95
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
"This is a fantastic interpretation from Bolgheri. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is made with fruit from the same vineyard plots that go into the Bolgheri Superiore, only this is a second selection if you will. Generally speaking, fruit from the younger vines goes here. This wine gives us a very pretty glimpse of what we can expect of the high-end releases from this classic vintage. The fruit is rock solid, delineated, tonic and firm. The pleasure factor awarded here is very high thanks to the wine's inner softness, silky tannins and soothing extract. The bouquet is seamless and pristine." - 94 Points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from the estate's older and higher vineyards for added power and elegance.
2015 Masseto - $1490
100% Merlot from a vineyard high in the Bolgheri hills producing a wine of both power and finesse.
"The 2015 Masseto is simply extraordinary. Soft, silky and seamless, the 2015 possesses remarkable balance and harmony from the very first taste. What surprises me most about the 2015 is how fresh and vibrant the flavors are. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, mint, and wild flowers are all beautifully lifted in this exquisitely perfumed, gracious Masseto. Despite the warm, drought conditions of the early summer, the 2015 is a wine of mid-weight structure, polish and restraint. In this tasting, it positively dazzles. I can't remember ever tasting a young Masseto with this much pure harmony. Other vintages have been super-impressive upon release. The 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2013 all come to mind. But the 2015 has a level of pure sensuality and allure none of those vintages had when young, with the possible exception of the 2004." - 99 Points, Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com
'The release of this wine comes at a very happy time for the Masseto brand. The stunning 2015 Masseto is hitting the market just as the final touches are being made to the new Masseto winery. I'm told that Masseto might one day see other wines made under that same roof, so we can't exclude a future enlargement of the Masseto portfolio. The Masseto vineyard now covers seven hectares (divided into three plots), and the vines range from 30 to 40 years old. The wine is absolutely teeming with sensorial spirit that is transmitted through the bounty of the bouquet and the solid tannins of the mouthfeel. Nothing about the wine goes unnoticed or unchecked. Its many working pieces fit together with precision like a well-oiled machine. The 2015 vintage is characterized by a level of sheer exuberance that also defined the 2004 and 2007 vintages. Yet, it also reveals similar power, directness and linearity that we saw in the 2010 vintage. The 2015 Masseto takes the best of all those past vintages and confines those qualities to this single, spectacular bottle." - 100 Points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com
