In the very heart of the Chianti Classico appellation sits Poggio Scalette's beautiful old vineyards. Re-planted right after World War I, the estate then went through some misfortunes and fell into disrepair until the early 90s, when it was re-discovered by famed winemaker Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana. Still run by the latter, but now with Vittorio's son Jurij at the helm of winemaking, the estate produces some of the best Chianti Classico around, at excellent prices.
Jurij also has a little side project where he makes tiny quantities of two single vineyard wines from Lamole; Nonloso and Punto di Vista, capturing the essence of these two wonderful sites in elegant and expressive Sangiovese.
This week we are proud to be able to offer you the wines of both estates, including the 99 Points 2015 Il Carbonaiolo made from 80+ year old vines AND a free tasting of these exceptional wines this Saturday (04.05.19)! We have a few bottles to be sold on the day, with the rest of the wine arriving in a couple of weeks.

2016 Fiore Chianti (San Gimignano) - $21.50
With its savoury and softly fruity notes, this is a versatile and pleasing table red that could only come from the beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany.
2017 Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico - $40
Always one of our favourite Chianti from the vintage, the 2017 Poggio Scalette is another gorgeous offering. Because the wine is only raised in cement tanks, the powerful Sangiovese fruit is beautifully buoyed in this refreshing yet serious Chianti Classico.
2015 Poggio Scalette "Il Carbonaione" - $99
"A really exotic nose with so much dried herb character, ranging from thyme and sage to Thai basil. Then there’s more familiar and equally appealing dark blackcurrants, crushed stones and lavender. Full body with very refined tannins that both coat and caress the palate. A long, chewy finish. Drink in 2022." - 99 Points, James Suckling
"The 2015 Il Carbonaione is fabulous. It is also quite a bit more refined than I expected in this warm year. Nuanced, silky and light on its feet for such an intense wine, the 2015 a has a lot to offer. As has been the case in the past, I expect the 2015 won't start to drink well until age ten or so. I am not sure I remember seeing a young Carbonaione with this much delineation and finesse. I can't wait to see how it ages. Carbonaione remains one of the most under the radar wines in Italy." - 95+ Points, Antonio Galloni
2016 Jurij Fiore & Figlia “Nonloso” Lamole Chianti Classico - $119
The 2016 Chianti Classico Lamole NonLoSò shows the darker side of Sangiovese in its blue/purplish fruit. Lavender, spice and menthol nuances meld together in this pliant, super-expressive Chianti Classico. A wine of power and density, the 2016 needs time to be at its best, but it is hugely promising. - 94 Points, Antonio Galloni
2016 Jurij Fiore & Figlia "Punto di Vista” Lamole Chianti Classico - $138
The 2016 Chianti Classico Lamole PuntodiVista is dense, pliant and super-expressive. A rush of sweet red cherry, pomegranate, mint and blood orange give the 2016 a decidedly exotic flair. Time in the glass brings out a brighter, more floral register that distinguishes the PuntodiVista from the darker Lamole NonLoSò. - 93 Points, Antonio Galloni
