A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Malescot St.-Exupéry's owners, Jean-Luc and Françoise Zuger, for a vertical tasting of the estate's phenomenal Margaux. What the event showed was wines of great richness, pure and fragrant, very forward, but framed by excellent tannins and masterful oak integration - we were completely smitten with the wines and felt you should not miss this opportunity to score back and current vintages of well-priced, exceptional Margaux. You'll find below our comments on the wines in italic, followed by notes and points from the Wine Advocate, and, for more information on the estate, you can click HERE. Please allow a good three months for delivery as the wines are coming straight from the estate in a temperature controlled container.

1995 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $229
Still plenty of life left in that bottle and required a good decant to show it's true colours - elegant and just tannic enough, with excellent freshness and beautiful fruit.
"This wine may merit an outstanding rating. It offers a classic Margaux combination of elegance and richness. Medium-bodied, with delicate, beautifully ripe, black currant and floral aromas that compete with subtle new oak, the 1995 Malescot hits the palate with a lovely concoction of fruit, nicely integrated tannin and acidity, and a stylish, graceful feel. This quintessentially elegant Bordeaux should continue to improve in the bottle. A beauty!" - 90 Points, Wine Advocate
2005 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $420
Pitch-perfect example of 05 Bordeaux... Powerful, bold, full of tannins, fruit, acidity and colour, but just so charming! Gorgeous florals mingle with dark fruit, velvety, long and fresh. What a wine!
"A beautiful wine, once again, from this property that has been on a superb qualitative roll for several decades. Dense ruby/purple with notes of graphite, background oak, youthful crème de cassis and blackberry fruit as well as a floral underpinning, it is medium to full-bodied, textured, rich and impressive. Still in a somewhat adolescent stage, it should hit full maturity in another 2-3 years and last at least two decades." - 96 Points, Wine Advocate
2009 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $229
This one was in your face big - intensity and power are the name of the game here, but effortless, with texture and acidity that lifts the whole thing up. Will require patience!
"An inky/purple color is followed by notes of Asian plum sauce, forest floor, creme de cassis, black raspberries and a floral component that is unusual for a Margaux. A wine of exceptional intensity and purity with a full-bodied, sumptuous texture, lots of fresh vibrancy and excellent definition, this beautiful 2009 exhibits high but sweet tannin. It is more sexy than the 2005 was at a similar age, although their level of extract and concentration is relatively equal. Something about the 2009 reminds me of a Margaux version of St.-Julien's Leoville Poyferre ... if that makes any sense." - 96 Points, Wine Advocate
2010 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $259
The 2010 was probably the pick of the litter... Everything the 09 had, but more graceful and fluid, with a staggering length. This will last forever, but is just so bloody delicious at the moment!
"Gorgeous, flowery, classic Margaux once again, the 2010 Malescot St.-Exupery continues to show virtually no toasty oak, given the impeccable balance and full-bodied, full-throttle style it possesses. Black raspberries, creme de cassis and spring floral notes intermixed with forest floor and a hint of charcoal are followed by an opulent, sexy, full-bodied wine whose tannins have become much sweeter, while the wine is less restrained yet still exuberant and impressive. This is a phenomenal example once again for this estate, harmonious in every sense of style, extraordinarily long, rich and age-worthy. Three to four years of bottle age will do wonders to make it more accessible, but this wine is set for 25-30 years of longevity." - 95 Points, Wine Advocate
2013 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $119
// not tasted
"A healthy dense ruby/purple color is followed by sweet cassis fruit and floral notes, excellent texture, and a medium-bodied mouthfeel in this fresh, lively, concentrated 2013. Drink this impressive, well-made Margaux over the next decade." - (89-91) Points, Wine Advocate
2014 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $149
Pure, feminine, benchmark 2014 Margaux. Very easy drinking and the kind of wine you need to drink while waiting for the more recent vintages or the 09s and 10s. Very very pleasant.
"The 2014 Malescot-St-Exupery has a clean, fresh and vibrant bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and cedar scents, a touch of graphite emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit laced with cedar and graphite. The acidity is well judged, that pencil lead note heightened towards the finish that demonstrates very fine persistence. I like the swagger and class of this Margaux and I can see this offering two decades of drinking pleasure." - 92 Points, Wine Advocate
2015 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $219
Classically elegant vintage for Malescot, with an extraordinary fruit purity. The tannins will require a few more years in bottle to soften up, but with the right food, it could be approachable now. Would still recommend drinking the '14 while waiting for this one!
"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Malescot St. Exupery is scented of chocolate-covered cherries, cassis and red plums with touches of earth and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of expressive fruit, it finishes long and pure." - 94+ Points, Wine Advocate
2016 Malescot St.-Exupéry - $219
Took forever and a day to open up, but once it did, the aromas wafting from the glass were stunning, with gorgeous, ripe fruit, spices and florals. The quite grippy tannins and the superb freshness will ensure that this text-book Margaux ages handsomely.
"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Malescot St. Exupery sings of cassis, fragrant earth, tobacco and lilacs with a compelling waft of mocha. Medium to full-bodied and strutting loads of expressive fruit layers at this youthful stage, it's framed by ripe, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with great length and depth." - 95 Points, Wine Advocate
