Description
"A very wet winter and spring created increased work in the vineyard to ensure vines were clean and healthy and the incredibly wet October affected the fruit set reducing crop load. This increased rainfall also made nights warmer and days relatively cooler extending the ripening period. Summer dried out like usual with little rain in January and February allowing the fruit to ripen leading to a harvest that was 2-weeks later than recent experiences. Fruit retained natural acidity well, while flavours were developed at less ripeness. Wines are intense but with a lighter weight than normal.
The classic pairing of two noble north-eastern Italian varieties combine here to create a savoury elegant red wine with soft fruit and charming length. The Nebbiolo brings excellent tannin and finesse with aromas of wild herbs and violets, while the Barbera compliments with ripe red berry fruit and velvet mouthfeel." - Winemaker Note
"Bright and youthful in the glass. Fragrantly lifted aromas of blueberry, bramble, briar, wet earth, spice and a menthol lick. The palate is textured, layered, savoury and delicious. There’s a core of dark, brooding blackberry fruit, a touch of anise/spice and then these fabulously savoury and shapely tannins kick in and give real purpose and drive. Delicious!" - 93 Points Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
