Description

"Defining the boundaries between our parcels of BâtardMontrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is a delicate task, as these two Grand Crus, which we acquired at the same time in 2008, share many common features. The eastfacing ochre, stony, clay-rich soil provides exceptional conditions. The steep slope facilitates effective natural drainage. This being an early-ripening growing area, we have to delay pruning to avoid frosts. Covering a total surface area of 0.87 ac., this parcel allows us to explore the full wealth and complexity of this exceptional terroir." - Winemaker Notes

"A mind-blowing chardonnay with gigantic stony intensity and creamy richness. When the mineral freshness kicks in, it leaves you completely stunned. Delicate candied-citrus and fresh hazelnut flavors cascade over you in the incredibly long finish. Fermented and matured in 50% new oak barriques and 50% once-used barriques. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." - 98 points, Stuart Pigott

"The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is frankly in a different league to the Bienvenue this year. It's far richer and more complex with greater mineralité. The palate is well balanced with a smooth entry and quite creamy in style but with ample depth. Quite harmonious with hints of peach skin toward the finish, this is going to be seductive Bâtard-Montrachet. This is excellent." - 93-95 points, Neal Martin

"More subtle though still easily perceptible oak can be found on the cooler nose of Granny Smith apple, petrol, acacia blossom and citrus confit. The medium-bodied flavors aren't quite as concentrated as those of the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet but do possess slightly more complexity on the powerful, focused and youthfully austere finale. Lovely and very promising." - 91-94 points, Allen Meadows
