Description
"Our Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is the estate’s most emblematic white wine. We are proud to own these 0.86 ha, adjacent to our Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru Monopole, since 1874. Our vines thrive and flourish in an elaborate patchwork of four parcels with diverse terroirs located in Le Corton and Le Rognet et Corton. The eastern soils of the appellation consist of clay, while the upper slopes are characterised by grey marl. This terroir produces deep, mineral wines. The altitude difference between the lowest (305 m) and highest (360 m) plots of Charlemagne creates subtle variations that contribute to the unique character of this Grand Cru." - Winemaker Notes
"A broad-ranging nose reluctantly offers up its aromas of spice, mineral reduction, green apple and citrus rind along with subtle wood influence. There is both excellent volume and punch to the succulent yet powerful flavors that flash plenty of stoniness on the moderately austere and lingering finish that is borderline tannic. At least some patience strongly advised." - 92-94 points, Allen Meadows
"The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a leesy nose, a touch of lime and lemon thyme and is well defined if requiring more intensity (like the Bâtard-Montrachet). The palate is balanced with a fresh orange sorbet and lime entry. It is cohesive with fine acidity, though it needs a little more Corton-Charlemagne typicity—especially in texture—on the finish." - 91-93 points, Neal Martin
"Cask sample. Very tight and restrained and unlike a grand cru now. Too simple! Takes a great leap of faith to believe it will become something really exciting and up to grand cru standard." - 16/20, Jancis Robinson
