Description
"Capturing all the intricacies of the Burgundy wine region, this Clos is divided among 82 owners. Our domain holds 3 parcels of this emblematic Clos, two of which run from the bottom and extend towards the middle of the Clos, while the third one is located in the heart, close to the castle. The plots at the bottom of the Clos benefit from deep, marly soils that retain moisture and avoid water stress, making them ideal in dry years. This results in a wine reflecting the full depth and purity of the Burgundian terroir. It encapsulates a monastic, austere, almost ‘intellectual’ style, intended for aesthetes and connoisseurs of the more serious Pinot Noir, devoid of self-indulgence or easy charm. Beautifully rustic, elegantly austere, this wine will acquire depth and colour over time." - Winemaker
"Cask sample. Surprisingly pale. Just a little loose but there is some attractive savour (as opposed to sweetness) and some grand cru life to this. Tannin very much in evidence but the wine is persistent and obviously trying hard." - 17++/20, Jancis Robinson
"An unusually floral-suffused nose for Clos de Vougeot features additional nose of various red berries and just turned earth. The attractively textured, if not especially dense, medium weight flavors terminate in a youthfully austere and lingering finish that could also use better depth." - 90-93 points, Allen Meadows
"The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a clean and pure bouquet that perhaps doesn't possess the mineralité and complexity of the Corton Clos de Faiveley. The palate is clean and pure with silky tannins. It's not a powerful Clos Vougeot, yet it's focused and harmonious with a dab of sour cherry on the slightly truncated finish." - 90-92 points, Neal Martin
