Description
"The plot is located among the highest in the appellation, on more marly soils and in the immediate vicinity of the forest, which slows down the vegetative cycle and gives our wines a rare balance and a beautiful vivacity. Its steep slope prevents any mechanized work; here, the horse is the vineyards most faithful ally. Powerful aromas offer a bouquet blending black fruits, spices, and even subtle notes of coffee. On the palate, it is powerful and complex. This wine is the quintessential wine for aging; it will require patience before revealing all its secrets (to be kept for at least 10 years before tasting). The Tortochot Chambertin wines are aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 70% of which are new. Thus, the fruit is abundant, the tannins are pure and fine, and the oak is well integrated." - Domaine Tortochot
"Nothing makes the future seem rosy like contemplating it through a glass of Chambertin." - Alexandre Dumas
"Smells like a rose garden. Quiet, insistent beauty. Dark sweetness of fruit. Thrumming undercurrent of energy and cool minerality. Really special." - 17.5/20, Jancis Robinson
"The 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru is aged in 90% new oak, which shapes the aromatics at the moment, though there is plenty of fruit to support that. Hints of iodine and iris flower emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, beautifully complete with very well integrated oak. Harmonious with hints of sage and white pepper towards the finish, this is classy Chambertin from Tortochot. Superb." - 96 points, Neal Martin
"Once again there is just enough wood lurking in the background of the ripe aromas of poached plum, dark currant, forest floor and an abundance of earth nuances. The super-sleek and intense larger-bodied flavors possess both fine detail and plenty of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Patience advised here as well." - 92 points, Allen Meadows, 2022 review
