"Mazis-Chambertin is located north of the Grand Cru vineyards. It borders Ruchottes-Chambertin to the north and Clos-de-Bèze to the south. The vines, planted on a hard rocky slope, stretch from bottom to top across more than half of the Grand Cru vineyard. The nearby Combe de Lavaux brings refreshing breezes.
The Mazis has a powerful, floral nose with notes of rose petals. The fruitiness blends spicy black fruits with red fruits, such as raspberry and juicy blackberry. The finish is pleasantly fresh and mouthwatering. The tannins are smooth with the breadth and depth one expects from a Grand Cru. This wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 60% of which are new, giving the nose subtle smoky notes and a toasty palate." - Domaine Tortochot
"A more restrained though more layered nose reflects notes of various dark berries, newly turned earth and plenty of gamy sauvage character. The rich, generous and reasonably concentrated medium weight flavors also exude evident minerality on the solidly powerful and impressively long finale.
